Fr. Callaghan passes away

FR. PHILIP Callaghan S.M. passed away Thursday at 8:05 a.m. at San Pedro Hospital in Davao City.

Fr. Philip as he was popularly known was born on Oct. 31, 1941, Brisbane, Australia. He made his Religious Profession in the Society of Mary (Marist Fathers) Feb. 2, 1964.

After ordination to the priesthood on August 19, 1967, he worked in Australia and the Pacific Islands for 16 years especially in the work of formation of Priests and Religions.

In his last 19 years, Fr. Philip excelled as a brilliant Professor of Philosophy, History and English, highly appreciated by thousands of students at Notre Dame University, Cotabato City and in Davao City at the Regional Diocesan Seminary, Redemptorist Seminary and Holy Cross College.

For many years, he served a member of the board of Balay Pasilungan for Street Boys. He also celebrated the Eucharist at the Sto. Niño Shrine, Matina and at the Carmelite Sisters, Bajada.

He is mourned by his two sisters, Marilyn, Anne and his brother Dennis and their families, as well as by the Marist Family of Priests, Brothers, Sisters and Laity together with the many whose lives he touched through his person and ministry.

Interment will be on Sunday at the Wireless Catholic Cemetery after the 11 a.m. funeral mass at the Carmelite Sisters Chapel.
