Operators, drivers told: No matrix, no fare hike
THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) 11 announced the P1 fare increase for public utility jeepneys (PUJ) has already taken effect Tuesday, with the new minimum fare rate now at P6.50.
But only drivers of vehicles that have the fare matrix will be allowed to demand the new rate.
LTFRB 11 administrative officer Edgar Violan said drivers collecting additional P1 fare sans the new fare matrix will be penalized for overcharging.
"Magmumultahin ng P500 ang operator at ang driver. Kung paulit-paulit ang violation, the LTFRB will cancel the driver's license," Violan said.
Violan said their office received the communication from the LTFRB central office regarding the implementation of the fare increase on Tuesday morning.
For longer routes, Violan made it clear that there is no additional charge for the succeeding kilometers.
"All drivers are required to post the new matrix in conspicuous place inside the jeepney. No matrix, no increase," Violan said.
Violan said around 600 PUJ operators already acquired new matrices from the LTFRB.
Violan said the jeepney operators shall pay the filing fee for the petition for rate increase at P520 per franchise.
"Kung sa isang franchise may tatlong units, the operator shall pay P50 each for the other two units," Violan said.
Violan said the LTFRB office issues a blue paper matrix.
He said the drivers were warned to post the original matrix inside the jeepney and not a photocopied one.
"We advised the drivers to laminate the matrix para hindi madaling mapunit," Violan said. (AAG)
