All set for swimfest

IT'S all go for the 6th Davao Mayor's Cup Age-Group Swimming Competition that will plunge into action on Friday to Sunday at the Ladislawa Country Club.

Organizer Deedee Gonzalez yesterday said a total of 152 events will be contested by participants from some 17 swimming teams in the country with entries as far as Bacolod City and Antique City.

Host Coastland Davao Swim Team (CDST) will try to dominate the pool over other heavy favorites Dadiangas Torpedoes and Sea Lions Swim Team of Koronadal, among others.

The F. Guanco Swim Team of Bacolod and Antique Swimming Association, Tangub Aqua Flyers, Zamboanga City Swim Team, Cropus Christi Swim Team of Cagayan de Oro (CDO), MJ Neri Swimming School Team of CDO, Lyceo de Cagayan University Swim Team of CDO and Xavier University of CDO are expected to put up a stiff contest over local clubs.

The Dong Gonzales Swim Team of General Santos, Ateneo Blue Tankers Swimming Club of Zamboanga City, Panabo City Swimming Team, Evangelista Aquatics Swimming Team, Holiday Spa Swim Team and Team Swim Zone are also seeing action in the swimfest.

The event features the six years old and under, seven to eight, nine to 10, 11 to 12, 13 to 14, 15 to 17, 18-above and masters 30-above categories.

The tournament shall apply the point system to determine the top three teams that will receive trophies. The gold, silver and bronze medallist will go to the top three swimmers in each event.

Trophies will also be given to the bemedaled tankers in every age group while special prizes will be awarded to the biggest delegation, best in uniform and best in program presentation.

The City Government of Davao, Philippine Sports Commission and Ceelin are the major backers of the three-day meet sanctioned by the Philippine Amateur Swimming Association (Pasa).
