Davao bets hurdle foes

THE Davao Taekwondo Center collected seven gold medals, four silvers and six bronzes to rule the 2005 Regional Inter-School Taekwondo Championships at the NCCC Mall over the weekend.

DTC, a crack selection of the best jins from Jose Te, BeeFot and Pingoy clubs, was in a knit-tight competition against runner-up Philippine Army that hauled seven golds, for silvers and five bronzes.

The University of Mindanao (UM) placed third with seven golds, four silvers and one bronze while Cor Jesu College of Digos City got three golds for the fourth spot.

The Ateneo Tigers came fifth with two golds, four silvers and three bronzes followed by the Eagle Claws in sixth (2-3-0), Rising Dragons seventh (2-1-0), Central Gym of Marco Polo (1-5-3) eighth and Golden Shield ninth (0-4-2).

DTC's Jerone Sto. Domingo copped the men's mid-junior finweight gold while Bienvenido Cariaga won the featherweight gold and Crisostomo Liceralde clinched the men's junior fly-bantamweight gold.

Other gold medalists were junior welter-light middleweight Eduardo Miguel Herrera, middle-liht heavyweight James Erwin Go, women's junior feather-lightweight Jealan Jasmine Panianba-an and men's junior feather-lightweight Jason Ngo.

Children boys novice B champion Glenn Paul Mojado, Novice C champion John Mark Grecia, Advance C champion Yvan James Carlos, children girls novice E/F champion Tiara Patricia Ramboanga, women's mid-junior Keeshia Mae Pacursa, welter-light middleweight Nikkie Julian, men's junior finweight King Allain Ibañez and women's junior middle-light heavyweight Cherry Mae Balingit led the charge for the Philippine Army.

A total of 121 entries were entered in the two-day meet sponsored by Kix, tae kwon do's official equipment, NCCC Mall, Davao Volunteer Fire Brigade, H2Zero, Photohouse Lab., Inc. and Jose Te Taekwondo and Fitness Center.
