Pinoy posts 3rd victory in pool championship By Charles Raymond A. Maxey
GANDY Valle of the Philippines recorded his third win in the elimination phase of the 2005 Kaohsiung World Pool Championship, downing American John Schimdt, 5-3, Monday.
His campaign stalled somewhat after losing to Ceri Worts of New Zealand in his third match, Valle rebounded with the huge win for his six point in the race-to-5 alternate breaks elimination stage.
Valle, who hails from Davao City, needs to win two of his remaining three matches in Group 10 to assure himself of a slot in the round-of-64.
Another Filipino, Dennis Orcullo, likewise rebounded from a heartbreaking defeat the previous day with a 5-2 win over Ben Davies of Wales.
Of the 10 Pinoy campaigners in the event, only Antonio Lining and Efren Reyes are in danger of being ousted in the elimination following dismal showings early on.
Marlon Manalo is the best performer thus far with four wins in four matches.
