Guv urges filing of protest v. Moro group for vendors' deaths
By Ben O. Tesiorna

North Cotabato Governor Emmanuel Piñol urged government to file a protest with the Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities (CCCH) against a Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) group for the killing of two peddlers from Kidapawan City.

In a statement, Piñol said the victims, identified as Rolando Cagasan and Sergio Ramos, were peddling their wares in the boundary of Midsayap and Datu Piang on June 3 when they were abducted by a group led by MILF commander Pacnarin Bangon.

Their dead bodies were later discovered in the boundary of Barangays Kudarangan and Ulandang in Midsayap.

The governor said an in-depth investigation is now being conducted to determine who were behind the abduction and murder of the two peddlers. He said that there are strong indications that Bangon's group was behind it.

"If it is proven that the group of Pacnarin Bangon is behind the senseless killing, this should be raised before the CCCH as a gross violation of the peace process. The two innocent civilians were only eking out a living to support their families. What wrong have they done to deserve death," Piñol said. The CCCH, composed of representatives from the government and MILF, monitors the implementation of the ceasefire agreement by the two parties.

Cagasan was the father of four while Ramos had six siblings. Both of them were breadwinners of the family.
