Peace talks not affected by Cabinet member's resignation
By Ben O. Tesiorna

THE ongoing peace negotiation between the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the government is not at all affected by the resignation of peace process adviser Teresita Deles from the Arroyo administration.

This was the common statement made by North Cotabato Governor Emmanuel Piñol and MILF spokesman Eid Kabalu.

Piñol said Deles' resignation, as well as the other nine cabinet members, from the Arroyo administration does not stop the government from operating.

"The world will continue turning without us (officials), we are all dispensable," Piñol said.

Piñol said for as long as the dream for a peaceful Mindanao is there, peace negotiations will continue.

"The dream is there, the dream for peaceful Mindanao is there and it is that dream that will continue," Piñol said.

MILF spokesman Eid Kabalu meanwhile said the government has already appointed somebody to replace Deles as government peace negotiator thus, they see no factor that would prevent the peace negotiation to continue.

Piñol said it is essential that the government and the Muslim secessionist group continue talking peace since it has greatly contributed to the development of their province and many other provinces in Mindanao.

The governor said that for the past two years, development has gone a long way in many areas in Mindanao.
