Hot Pacquiao foe to fight July 15 By Charles Raymond A. Maxey
THE Mexican boxer whom Manny Pacquiao is going to trade punches with on Sept. 10 is on a hot streak, having won his last four fights including a stoppage of tough customer Marcos Licona last February.
Hector Velazquez of Tijuana, Mexico is, in fact, fighting on July 15 in Chicago and a victory here will stretch his winning run to five entering the Pacquiao bout.
Velazquez, who is ranked No. by the World Boxing Council, will go up against Aldo Valtierra of Mexico City in a 12-round featherweight fight at the Aragon Ballroom.
Velazquez has a record of 41-10 with 30 KOs, a credential that should not be taken lightly by Pacquiao, who is coming off a loss to Erik Morales.
Among the big victims of Velazquez were Ubaldo Hernandez, Guty Espadas and Armando Cordoba.
Some of the Mexican's loses were to Israel Vazquez, Rocky Juarez, Kevin Kelley and Orlando Soto.
Pacquiao is scheduled to travel to the United States in August to begin training for his fight, which is scheduled at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Morales is also fighting in the same card, a doubleheader presented by Bob Arum on HBO.
A win by both Pacquiao and Morales will set up a grudge rematch in December possibly in another pay-per-view thriller.
