City aids convention bureau
THE City Government of Davao has vowed to support the operation of the Davao Convention Bureau (DCB), being the umbrella organization of the city's tourism sector.
In response to the resolution drafted by the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (DCCCII), which seeks the support of the city and was passed during the Davao City Business Conference (DCBC) held recently, Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said the City Government, through the City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO), has already provided the DCB an office staff and necessary equipment, such as facsimile machine, filing cabinet, promotional materials, and hosted meetings in relation to its operations.
All of these, he added, cost a total of P216,000. This initiative, Duterte said, is a clear manifestation that the city government is serious in assisting the DCB.
"It is recognized that the DCB needs assistance on staffing and production of materials, training of multilingual tourist guides (particularly Japanese, Chinese, and Korean), orientation of taxi drivers, tarffic/security workers and various tourism service providers tro promote the wholesome image of Davao City as a tourist destination," he said.
With the Department of Tourism's commitment to give the DCB a financial assistance of P1 million, the mayor said, the city government is likewise dedicated to grant another P1 million as a counterpart fund.
"The City Government should be able to provide a stronger institutional response to the DCB as it is formally organized and acquires a legal personality of its own. The DCB needs to be legally established considering our desire to make Davao City as the hub of conferences and conventions," he said.
The DCB was inaugurated on December 2, 2004. (JMM)
