Trade dep't vows faster service with ISO certification

THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) 11 has vowed faster and more efficient delivery of services, especially now that it is waiting for its ISO (International Standards Organization) 9001-certification.

DTI 11 regional director Merly Cruz said last week that with this development, the agency's clients are assured of quality management services.

"After 20 months of audit and preparation, finally we are being certified under ISO 9001 or Quality Management System. And also natapos na rin namin ang manual ng QMS. We have actually put in a manual the courses of action that we have to incorporate in the present system," she said.

The manual serves as the guideline in carrying on all the function and mission of the agency.

The ISO-certification of the agency, Cruz said, does not only give benefits to the clients, but as well as to the entire DTI 11.

Being an ISO-certified regional government agency, the DTI 11 is expected to integrate into its system the 5S, namely, sort, sanitize, sweep, systematize, and self-discipline.

"Since manualized na kami, mas mabilis na ang implementation ng aming mandate, both developmental and regulatory. For instance, sa business name registration process. Before, we need one month to process the documents of the client. But right now, in two days time, tapos na ang registration process. Ang nagyayari kasi, we receive the registration. Through the Internet, we submit it to Manila, doon sa mainframe. Actually ang medyo matagal lang ay 'yong logging and sorting kasi nga marami ring clients everyday. Maganda ang naibibigay nito sa clients namin, at the same time, very minimal or halos wala na talagang oras na nasasayang," she said.

In the wake of this development, Cruz said the agency is optimistic that a larger number of clients will be served daily.

Aside from faster processing system, the DTI 11 likewise boasts of more systematic tracking of investments that are being infused in the region.

"Without manualization, if nag-conduct kami ng investment forum and we reported that there are five business opportunities, as to what happened to the five, we leave to the heaven, kumbaga. But right now, may tracking na. Systematic na lahat. Another good thing is, bawal ang nakasimangot at suplada sa lahat ng staff," she said.

To ensure the implementation of a quality management system, the DTI 11 will do internal audit every six months while the ISO will do it every year.

The certification will be received by DTI 11 in two weeks time. (JMM)
