Rebels attack police outpost in Davao Oriental town
SUSPECTED New People's Army rebels harassed and attacked a detachment of the Philippine National Police in Baganga, Davao Oriental Saturday.
Major Jose Maria Cuerpo of the Army's 5th Civil Relations Group said around 30 rebels attacked the 1105th Police Provincial Mobile Group headquarters in Saoqueque at around 12:15 p.m., resulting to a 30-minute firefight.
Sensing they could not overrun the police camp, the rebels then withdrew towards Sitio Paglimasan bringing along with them their casualties, Cuerpo said.
No casualties were reported on the government side. Cuerpo said right after the attack, a team from the Army's 67th IB proceeded to the area to block the rebels' escape routes while another team was dispatched to pursue the rebels.
Military operation in the area was going on as of press time. (BOT)
