Tightest security during Kadayawan

"AS TIGHT as humanly possible" was how Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte described the security measures authorities will implement as Dabawenyos mark the weeklong Kadayawan sa Dabaw starting Monday.

Crowd-drawing events are lined-up during the festivities, including the "Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan," floral float parade, the live staging of the star-studded noontime Sunday show Asap, street parties, free concerts, among others.

Duterte, in his weekly radio program Sunday, said he already ordered the Davao City Police Office and the Task Force Davao to "accost all suspicious-looking individuals" in all corners of the city.

He said this is the best way to fully secured the city and protect Dabawenyos, as well as thousands of foreign and local visitors who will flock to the city to witness what has been touted as the "Festival of All festivals."

"In order to protect fully as humanly possible we have no choice but to be very strict," Duterte said.

He admitted that the terrorist threat in this year's Kadayawan celebration is very high considering the recent bombings in Zamboanga, Koronadal and Cotabato cities.

Unconfirmed reports said terrorist groups are out to sow chaos during the Kadayawan and will be employing women as bomb-couriers or suicide bombers.

Duterte said it is for this reason that he ordered for the deployment of more covert operatives so as to easily spot and arrest any terrorists in the city.

He assured the public though that the City Government is doing its very best to protect them from harm. He called on the public not to mind much the terror threat and enjoy the Kadayawan to the fullest. (BOT)
