Vice guv lauds Samal for 'fine cities' feat
THE Island Garden City of Samal has been chosen one of the eight "dream cities" by the Institute for Solidarity in Asia (ISA), a non-government think thank on good governance headed by former Finance secretary Jesus Estanislao.
Igacos and the seven other cities (San Fernando, La Union, Tagbilaran, Calbayog, Iloilo, Naga, Cebu and Marikina), according to ISA, have "inched closer to goals they aimed to accomplish between five to 10 years from now" based on presentations they gave before a gathering of professionals, businessmen, and the youth at the Rizal Ballroom of the Makati Shangri-LA last week.
First to congratulate Mayor Antalan and his constituents was Vice Governor Antonio Rafael G. del Rosario of Davao del Norte.
"Samal is doing us in Davao del Norte proud and its people led by Mayor Antalan need not only be congratulated but also encouraged to work some more to achieve the goals that they have set for themselves," del Rosario said in a brief statement.
Del Rosario agreed with the ISA that shining cities like Igacos provide this nation hope and optimism to be able to rise above its multifarious problems and be rescued from the political quicksand it is slowly gobbling it up.
Based on his presentation, Mayor Antalan envisions Samal to become a center of eco-tourism at part with international standards, capitalizing on projecting the island city as "a city of character" that is highly livable, with a "well-preserved and enriched cultural heritage." (AMA)
