Talomo 5 in finals
THE Talomo District cagers trounced the Poblacion West dribblers, 80-68, in the semifinal round of the 2005 Duterte Basketball League Inter-Political District Basketball Tournament Saturday at the Almendras gym.
Allan Cuta fired 27 points to lead Talomo while Richard Gutierrez added 16 baskets to help the squad earn a final's slot. The Best of Three Final series starts on Sunday, August 14.
Agdao District and Buhangin District were still playing as of press time.
Jessie Ytac, who led Poblacion West with 22 markers, tried to rally Poblacion West and drilled in eight points in a span of one minute and 21 seconds to cut their rivals lead, 67-76, in the fourth quarter.
But Talomo wisely used the game clock and made the needed shots to disappoint the rallying Poblacion Western boys of barangay captain Edgar Ibuyan.
The battle for third place starts at 1 p.m. while Game 1 of the Best of Three Final opens at 2:30 p.m.
The tournament is presented by Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte and sanctioned by the BAP-XI.
The event is also supported by the Barangay Affairs Division, Liga ng mga Barangay and the Sports Development Division.
