Local traders don't extend support to Kadayawan: Id
By Jenny Molbog-Mendoza

DAVAO City Tourism Officer Id Acaylar on Monday expressed apprehension over what he called apparent refusal of business establishments in Davao City to extend support for the Kadayawan Festival.

But he cited SM City Davao as the only city-based establishment that extended its support for Kadayawan.

The Kadayawan Foundation signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with SM City Davao, which signifies its commitment as a silver sponsor of the event.

However, the two stakeholders refused to divulge the cost of the sponsorship.

Acaylar said during the Kapehan sa Dabaw at the SM City Davao Entertainment Plaza Monday that city's business sector did not extend assistance for the festival despite the fact that they are the "direct beneficiaries of the festival."

It has been noted that business status of hotels, restaurants, malls, and other trading establishments in the city are so vibrant during the weeklong celebration of the Kadayawan, thus, any help from them is expected, Acaylar said.

"Sila talaga ang direct beneficiaries ng Kadayawan Festival and yet hindi sila tumutulong. Ang lakas pa naman ng loob na dumikit ng posters and banners nila kahit saan. Hihingi ka ng P50,000, P100,000, hindi talaga nagbibigay except na lang for SM," he said.

Acaylar said it is ironic to note that Manila-based companies are the ones extending their hands for the event, to think that they are not directly getting benefits from the festival.
