'Something big' threatens city
By Ben O. Tesiorna

DAVAO City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is expecting "something big" to happen in the coming days, but refuses to say anything else.

In a press conference Saturday, Duterte said they are monitoring something big just within the region and are just waiting for the right moment to make their move.

"They are in the peripheral provinces, but it is something big," he said.

While refusing to elaborate, he gave a hint that this "big thing" has something to do with terrorism after he said: "Ang concern ko lang talaga sa ngayon is terrorism. Ang droga wala na yan kasi patay naman lahat ng issue na 'yan dito."

Meanwhile, rumors of terrorist attacks continue following the bomb explosions in the cities of Koronadal, Cotabato and Zamboanga. Davao City, being the most urbanized city in Mindanao, remains to be a prime target of terrorists.

The police and military, however, were on their toes throughout the week-long Kadayawan Festival such that despite the droves of people who flocked all over the city, only incidents of snatching were reported and the festival was celebrated everywhere.

As the celebration peaked in the last two days, which featured the Indak-indak sa Dalan last Saturday and the Floral Float Parade last Sunday, more than 2,000 members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and around 500 Task Force Davao (TFD) soldiers were deployed to keep the crowd safe.

The Indak-indak and the Floral Float parade were the biggest crowd-drawer among all Kadayawan activities as people flock along the major thoroughfares where the parade and street-dancers passes through for two straight days.
