100 more cop stations to be set up nationwide

THE Philippine National Police is bent on building 100 new police stations all over the country before the term of PNP Chief Arturo Lomibao ends.

Lomibao said the construction of new police stations would strengthen peace and order and improve police-community relations.

Last week, Lomibao went to Maragusan in Compostela Valley and Baganga in Davao Oriental to lead the groundbreaking of the new police stations that would rise in those said municipalities.

"I aim to build 100 new police stations within my tour of duty," he said.

Lomibao said that to date, there are 70 police station buildings being built since he became PNP chief on March 14, 2005.

Lomibao said the establishment of new police stations is part of his program to improve the working conditions of the 115,000 policemen nationwide.

Lomibao flew in last week together with former regional police director Isidro Lapeña, Chief Superintendent Servando Hizon, Chief Supt. Antonio Billones, police regional director, and information officer Leopoldo Bataoil in line with his continuing field inspections and visits to far-flung and insurgency-affected towns.

Lomibao awarded medals to men and women of the PNP in these municipalities for their meritorious accomplishments.

He also turned over handcuffs to the police personnel there. The handcuffs were part of the 40,000 pieces donated by the Bureau of Customs after they were left unclaimed by the owners for non-payment of taxes by the supplier.

Lomibao headed the PNP's national command conference in Davao City last week. All top police officials of the country attended the conference held at the Royal Mandaya Hotel. (BOT with Peng Aliño)
