Wildcats claw Holy Child; HCDC 5 beat Davao Jones

COMEBACKING University of Mindanao (UM) Wildcats crushed Holy Child School of Davao College Reds, 96-52, in the 3rd Gaisano South Cup basketball tournament at the GS SkyGym Sunday night.

The Wildcats, who returned action in the league after missing action last season, grabbed their second straight win to share the lead with Jose Maria College (JMC) Kings in college division 1.

It was a second loss for the Reds in the event sanctioned by the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) 11 under its regional director Regino "Boy" Cua.

Abdul Karrem Nul topscored for the Wildcats with 18 points while Samigue Eman added 14. Gaychay Guirgay and Gerald Villa had 12 and 11 points, respectively.

In the juniors 2-A, SPCT pulled off a 95-86 victory over Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School (Drahns) as Edmund Dantes Trinidad and Jay Mark Carcosia scored 26 and 24 points, respectively.

Anthony Iman sizzled with 18 points to lift Bernardo Carpio National High School to an 84-68 win over University of the Immaculate Conception in junior 2-B.

The HCSD and Assumption College of Davao also racked up victories in the cadet division.

HCSD beat Thomspon Christian School, 96-48, while ACD downed UIC, 63-50, with Peter Lorejo (HCSD) and James Brian Lauganas (ACD) named as best player of their games.

The Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) mini squad relied on Lemuel Dominique Escudero's superb performance to thrash Davao Jones Academy, 114-15.

Escudero scored 35 points, grabbed three rebounds and had 13 steals.

Games will resume on Thursday.
