Arrest warrants out for doctor, 2 others By Raquel C. Bagnol
THE Regional Trial Court (RTC) has ordered the arrest of a doctor and two others after they were accused of recruiting seven workers for a cruise ship in Europe and collecting processing fees from them without the license from the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA) in August last year.
Judge Virginia Hofileña-Europa of the RTC Branch 11 issued the warrant of arrest dated August 25 against Dr. Fidel Torralda Gonzales Jr. alias Joey Beltran, Lucia Villamor, and Cayetana Villasis, all of Davao City, for their pending estafa case before her sala.
Europa set a bailbond of P24,000 each for the temporary liberty of the three accused.
The charges stemmed from the complaint filed by Jennifer R. Veloso of Gem Village, Ma-a, Loreen Oria, Aimeelou Gonzales, Robert Laud, Ernie Catredilla, Nick Pilapil, and Cromwell Arizola, all of Davao City.
In their joint affidavit, the complainants said sometime in August last year, the three accused recruited them for jobs as waiters, supervisors, room boys and other jobs in a cruise ship bound for Europe and based in Italy.
They said they were asked to pay fees for processing, but when they were already in Manila, Gonzales allegedly told them that they have to go back to Davao City to have their medical check-up.
The complainants said the three accused failed to deploy them after almost a year of waiting.
