Teen girl gets jail, fine for 'sumpak' By Raquel C. Bagnol
THE court convicted an 18-year-old girl to a maximum of six years in jail and ordered her to pay a fine of P15,000 after being found guilty of possession a handmade gun in February this year.
Judge Isaac G. Robillo of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 13 penned the three-page decision convicting Jackie Ybañez for violation of Presidential Decree 1866, otherwise known as Possession of Illegal Firearms Law, and ordered her to pay the fine in favor of the government.
Ybañez entered a not guilty plea when arraigned, but she opted to avail of the plea bargaining agreement and withdrew her earlier plea to guilty.
SPO2 Arnel Masaoding of the Bunawan Police precinct executed an affidavit and said they arrested Ybañez after receiving a call for assistance through 911 that a group of armed teenagers were roaming in Bunawan, Davao City at around 6:45 p.m. on February 8.
He said the teeners scampered in different directions when they arrived, but they were able to corner Ybañez who was carrying a homemade .22 caliber gun (sumpak). Assistant City Prosecutor Gemma Dabbay-Tambis earlier forwarded the filing of charges against Ybañez before the RTC and recommended a bailbond of P120,000 for her temporary freedom.
