Cosmetics firm owner charged for cutting trees
THE City Prosecutor's Office forwarded to the Regional Trial Court charges filed by three barangay residents against the owner of a well-known cosmetics company accused of cutting down 26 assorted trees in Buhangin, Davao City in September last year.
In a his resolution, assistant city prosecutor Oscar Suarez Te recommended the filing of charges of Republic Act 7161 (National Protected Area System of 1992) against Leonora Lim, president of RDL company in Buhangin, Davao City, after finding probable cause she may be guilty of the offense.
In their joint affidavits, Myrna Ellorin, Andreo Guimbal and Guidolo Balbino, all of barangay Communal, Buhangin, said the cutting of 26 trees near the creek had clogged the creek causing floods in Purok 5.
The complainants said they sought the assistance of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro).
In her counter-affidavit, Lim denied the charges and asked the City Prosecutor's Office (CPO) to dismiss the charge against her because it is "false and baseless."
Lim denied knowledge or participation in the cutting down of the trees. Lim added that the complainant's accusations that she and RDL committed acts destructive to the environment are libelous.
The CPO, however, denied Lim's motion for lack of merit and forwarded the charges to the RTC.
A bailbond of P24,000 was recommended for Lim's provisional liberty. (RCB)
