Education dep't launches e-learning program

AN ELECTRONIC online learning program for Department of Education (DepEd) teachers and principals was launched at the Department of Education 11 office in Davao City on August 26.

Gilbert Importante, Mindanao E-Learning Space manager, said courses in Change Management, School Physical and Resources Management, Social Marketing and Constructivism in Teaching and Learning are offered to the teaching staff while participants are given CD-ROMS and learners guide for the program, and in the e-learning space, the participants are given assignments, exams, presentations and discussions.

Importante said the web program saves cost since it isn't as expensive as maintaining a regular class and the units are credited in their Masteral program.

According to DepEd Undersecretary Fe Hidalgo the e-learning program provides access to learners, facilitates teachings and improves quality learning.

"There are interactive lessons, independent studies and independent learning," Hidalgo said.

The program has at least P4 million allocation a year until 2008 from the Australian Government's Basic Education Assistance for Mindanao (Beam with a 10% counterpart funding from DepEd.

The program is in support of the Education for All program of the President's Arroyo's "Beat the Odds" agenda.

The Mindanao E-learning program which can be accessed to the website www.Mispace.org.ph. is developed jointly by the DepEd, BEAM and the University of Southeastern Philippines. (PIA Davcomval/RGAlama)
