Moro militant leader resists arrest; 2 militiamen dead
TWO militiamen were killed while two other Army soldiers were wounded in an encounter with a Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) leader in Maguindanao Tuesday morning.
Major General Agustin Demaala, chief of the Army's 6th Infantry Division, said the encounter happened at around 6 a.m. Tuesday in Barangay Kitanon in Datu Saudi Ampatuan.
Demaala said some policemen were serving a warrant of arrest against MNLF commander Mando Tambulungan when the suspect and his followers put up a fight with the police.
Demaala said the Army's 64th Infantry Battalion under Colonel Felizardo Hernandez immediately sent reinforcement. A firefight ensued resulting to the death of two members of Civilian Volunteer Organization (CVO) and the wounding of two soldiers.
Demaala did not identify the victims.
He said the military hot pursuit operation against Tambulungan and his followers who escaped towards unknown direction. (BOT with Peng Aliño)
