Pacman to pitch in baseball match By Charles Raymond A. Maxey
FROM boxing to billiards to basketball to baseball.
Baseball?
Yes, Filipino boxing hero Manny Pacquiao will not climb the ring yet, but hit the baseball diamond instead when he throws the ceremonial pitch on September 1 at the Angels Stadium in Anaheim before the third game of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim-Oakland A's series.
Pacquiao's appearance during the game was announced by several boxing websites Wednesday.
Whether he throws a wild pitch or hits the umpire remains to be seen, but American baseball fans will definitely see a left-hander hurling from the mound, part of the plug by boxing organizers to promote his coming bout with Hector Velazquez of Mexico.
Pacquiao and Velazquez square off in a 12-round super featherweight on Sept. 10 at the Staples Center in Los Amgeles in an event, which also features Erik Morales.
Morales, who beat Pacquiao by unanimous decision last March, takes on Zahir Raheem in an another 12-rounder in the main event.
Pacquiao, aside from being a world boxing champion, is a good billiards player.
The General Santos City native is also into basketball, having organized cage tournaments and is keeping a team named after him.
