EARLY favorites Brene Parreño and Boris Michael Diez signed up recently to compete in the Shell National Youth Active Chess Championship 2005 Davao-Mindanao leg on September 17 and 18 at the Gaisano Mall of Davao Atrium.
Parreño, a University of Mindanao chess varsity member, was a finalist last year while Ateneo de Davao University's Diez was a national junior finalist and a former kiddie champion.
The Dimakiling brothers, Adrian and Chito II, also registered early along with lady chessers Kathy Baldonado and Grace Apuya in the juniors event.
In the kiddies division, eight-year-old Patrick and 10-year-old Omar Aquino are seeing action together with top contenders John Carl Aunso, Ademar Toleran Jr. and Gary Rojo.
Some 10 players from Cagayan de Oro City will also be around to challenge hometown bets.
Organizers said a special school award will go to the biggest school delegation in elementary, high school and college categories.
Deadline of submission of entries is on September 10 at Bonjee Entertaiment Services, 4th floor, Gaisano Mall of Davao. Inquiries may be coursed through telephone number (082) 225-8399.
Only the first 800 registrants will be accommodated in the two-day tournament that serves as a qualifying event for the national finals.
