Wattage of post bulbs cut

IN THE wake of the economic crisis, Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte ordered the implementation of wattage reduction program in Davao City, said City Administrator Wendel E. Avisado Thursday.

Avisado added that the city has increased by 30 percent in power rates as compared to the previous months and that the City Government pays an average of P16 million a month for power consumption.

"Ang instruction ni Mayor is that we try to save from posts. So, we are reducing wattage of sodium lights by replacing the bulbs. Ang mga 150 wattage bulbs were reduced to 100 wattage while those 100 wattage bulbs were reduced to 75 wattage," Avisado said.

Avisado said the replacement of bulbs started in April.

As of August 21, Avisado said that 16,318 bulbs have been replaced.

"The city has a total of 20,000 bulbs na papalitan. We have completed 82 percent already. We are trying to finish replacing the 20,000 within September," Avisado said.

Avisado said the accumulated savings that the wattage reduction project has already generated for the city from April to August is P5.4 million.

Avisado said the City Government has suspended the putting up of new posts.

"With the program, we target reduction from P16 million monthly to P11 million in the cost of power consumption," Avisado said. (AAG)
