Davao bets eye crown
THE Coastland Davao Swim Team (CDST) trains its guns for the over-all crown when the Lumba Langoy Tuna Festival plunges into action on Saturday and Sunday at the Pedro Acharon Sports Complex in General Santos City.
Tournament director Darren Evangelista said the CDST will have the biggest delegation in the two-day swimfest sanctioned by the Philippine Amateur Swimming Association (Pasa).
"CDST will field some 45 to 50 swimmers in the competition that will feature 96 individual events," he said in Thursday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn.
Trophies will be awarded to team winners while gold, silver and bronze medals will be given away to individual performers.
The open water events, however, will give cash prizes of P1,500, P1,000 and P500 to the top three finishers, respectively.
Host General Santos, Koronadal, Panabo and Mati teams are expected to put up a stiff competition.
The swimfest is organized by the General Santos City Chamber of Commerce and the Tuna Festival Council of General Santos City.
Pasa president Mark Joseph and board member Ral Rosario are guests in the opening rites.
