DTI, PFA to hold franchising gab By Jenny Molbog-Mendoza
THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) 11, in cooperation with the Philippine Franchise Association (PFA), are holding a franchising seminar on September 14, from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Davao Convention and Trade Center (DavCon).
The one-day seminar, which is dubbed as Power of Franchising, is aimed at showcasing the significance of franchising in augmenting the economic status of some entrepreneurs.
In the said seminar, participants will learn about the ins and outs of buying and investing in a franchise, the A's to Z's of buying a franchise, and how to franchise a business. PFA chair emeritus Samie Lim said in press statement
that many successful homegrown enterprises that made it big through good concept, guts, hardwork, commitment, and dedication are now being franchised nationwide. He cited the case of Julie's Bakeshop, a business which was first built on Wireless Street in Mandaue City, Cebu in 1981, has grown to be the largest bakery chain with over 400 branches nationwide. Another case is that of Ricky Reyes' Haircutters. Reyes opened a salon in Anonas, Quezon City in 1999 to cater the "masa" market, an absolutely bold action at that time because its target was the financially challenged population. To date, it has grown to over 200 outlets all over the country. It will open a branch in the United States soon.
The seminar, is a side activity of the 14th Mindanao Business Conference (Minbizcon). Other cooperators of the franchising forum are the Mindanao Business Council (MBC), Private Enterprise Accelerated Resource Linkage (Pearl) 2, and Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI).
For interested parties who are looking for a way to expand their business or acquiring a successful business company, you may contact Linda Lopez of DTI 11 at 224-0511 or the PFA Secretariat at telephone numbers (02) 687-0365 to 67 and look for Arlene de Vera and Allan Baltazar.
