Foreign investors eye mining sector

MOST of the foreign investors who are expected to participate in the 14th Mindanao Business Conference (Minbizcon) slated on September 15-17 are interested in investing in mining.

Mindanao Business Council (MBC) Vice Chair Romeo Serra in an interview said that the foreign delegation will include those from China, Indonesia , Malaysia, Canada and Europe.

The Minbizcon organizers are expecting 800 to a thousand participants to the upcoming 14th Minbizcon.

Serra specifically said that during their recent talks, investors from the United Kingdom have shown interest in investing in mining.

He said mining is one of the investment areas they are pushing in view of the rich resources of Mindanao.

The Mindanao business leaders had an audience with the ambassadors of the different embassies in Manila and what interest them in terms of business opportunities is the mining industry.

Serra added that it is timely that they had initiated the revitalization of the Mineral Industry.

"It is but logical that the initiative of revitalizing the industry come from Mindanao with the island hosting majority of the resources", he said.

According to Serra MBC is exerting all efforts to get the interests of foreign investors who would like to invest in the country particularly in Mindanao.

This year, Minbizcon will put greater emphasis on the commitments of the business community and government's response to the action agenda presented by MBC during last year's Minbizcon.

The theme of the 14th Minbizcon is "Mindanao--Delivery on the Promises". (PIA)
