Blazing house By Jinggoy Salvador
THERE was Cocoy Puyat but now it was Mon Maramba. This highly respected disc jockey (DJ) who started spinning career in the best discotheques in the country has managed to stay afloat even with the emergence of new blood. His chosen music genre is of course house music and he refuses to play anything else. Thank God for that.
For six months, the Araw ng Dabaw month of March to the bigger festivity of Kadayawan in August this year, the house music spinmeister played the coolest tunes he's got on his sleeve. And every month he seemed to have more like a magician pulling hares from his top hat. Magnifique! It's the best way to educate us party people, the more music, the better. Add a title in my list please.
After the success of the first series, Globe Gentxt and this series' radio partner red hot 105.9 MIX-FM, immediately agreed to make the second run. Air Philippines and Cebu Pacific shared slots in flying this DJ from Manila to Davao. And serving more goodies at My House were Achico Boutique and Basti's Brew and joining on the last stretch was Rudy Project.
The launch of this second series in the city's foundation day filled Liquid to the capacity. The beat kept on thumping way past the normal closing time. You can't keep a good DJ from playing his music and that goes for the crowd as well.
It was the same story the following months after, Liquid was everyone's house to go to. Each and every house music enthusiast was welcome to enter, party and have a celebration of a lifetime, this one at least.
Even with the establishment finally abiding with the "no fumar" regulation of the city, nothing has changed. The closing party was the Kadayawan. It was the ideal time to do so. The city was in a state of "unrest" and don't take that in context. Everyone, the Dabawenyos, the local and international visitors were moving around the city streets all day and the night that came after and they were having fun. The attendance this year must have beaten the number last year. It was just as appropriate to provide sufficient entertainment to accommodate each and every reveler on this night.
Call it the night of the pedestrian. It was the best way for anyone to maneuver form one party spot to another. Somehow your dancing shoes would lead you to your "house". And on this great night, the houseguests were overflowing way beyond anyone's imagination. It was star studded! That of course includes you, if you were there. The hotel lobby was like the pre-party area, which was full. Much more inside the Liquid, everyone was gyrating to Mon Maramba's infectious tunes. Even the garden area was unbelievably teeming with cigarette toting people. This must have been a record for the club.
It was hot, hot hot! What a blazing series of house parties! Another series of exciting parties only Liquid, Globe Gentxt, MIX-FM, Achico, Air Philippines, Cebu Pacific, Basti's Brew and Rudy Project can bring us. There is another series brewing and it's coming up even before you know it. This time a hodgepodge of music genres to suit everyone's preference with different DJs on board. Kicks off end of the month! Don't fail to catch it.
