Davao lures Sports Unlimited By Jojie Alcantara Witerary
IN AN interview with Associate Producer Gene Maninang, who joined Sports Unlimited for over five years now, Studio 23's Sports Unlimited has been dominating the TV sports feature scene for 9 years now, providing televiewers with ultimate sports adventure not only in the Philippines but abroad. The show is aired right after midnight on Saturdays (after the hyped Big Brother Pinoy episodes).
Recently, Sports Unlimited hosts Marc Nelson and dynamic sisters Dyan and Jackie Castillejo visited Davao for a fun romp in the Crocodile Park and an exhilarating three-hour wild water rafting and kayaking in Davao River.
During the last day, it was rest and recreation at the serene Buenavista Island off Samal waters for the group as they went diving and snorkeling.
While Jackie is chatty and animated, Dyan is a contrast of quiet control and cool confidence. Marc Nelson gamely carried the animals from a baby croc, the large python, to the mainstay baby orangutan, Carlo.
While Department of Tourism (DOT) Regional Director Sonia Garcia made sure the production crew's stay was enjoyable, Lifestyle writer and colleague Marissa Te Eng Fo made an impact with her "extreme cuisine" at the Crocodile Park.
On the menu was the exotic "Croc Curry" (sautéed croc in olive oil with mango tomato salsa on a bed of ferns from Nenita Farms); Marinated Croc in lime charbroiled served in bamboo skewers; and Fresh watercress topped with feta cheese from Malagos Garden Resort finished with olive oil balsamic tuyo dressing.
Yummy as it sounds, you've got to even taste them to believe them, topped off with a washing of Dizon pomelo wild water and bignay wine (Malagos Resort). Even the croc meat tasted unusually like chicken, but meatier. The guests, straight from the wild water experience, hungrily ate the prepared dishes in a snap.
A salute to culinary expert Marissa!
The Davao episode is yet to be aired, as the crew will be heading off to Macau this September, for yet more fun-filled extreme adventures. All in a day's work I so envy. (More of the photos and articles in www.witerary.com, or email witty@info.com.ph)
