Immigration exec fired for faking papers
THE Bureau of Immigration (BI) has ordered the dismissal from the service of Immigration Officer III Alimar F. Etrone, erstwhile chief Immigration Officer of Davao, for alleged falsification of public documents.
Immigration Commissioner Alipio F. Fernandez implemented Etrone's dismissal following the order of the Office of the Ombudsman Mindanao dated August 31, 2005.
The Office of the Ombudsman-Mindanao found Etrone "administratively liable for falsification of official document, dishonesty, grave misconduct, and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service".
In its decision, the Ombudsman also meted Etrone the "accessory penalties of cancellation of eligibility, forfeiture of retirement benefits, and perpetual disqualification for reemployment in the government".
On record, Etrone was appointed Immigration Officer III of the Bureau of Immigration in Davao City by then Justice Secretary Hernando P. Perez.
Etrone was investigated sometime in January last year when BI received a letter from a certain Antonio Reyes questioning his educational attainment, saying that he did not finish a college degree from the University of Mindanao (UM) as he claimed.
UM confirmed, on the other hand that indeed Etrone did not graduate with a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Civil Engineering as he claimed in his record.
A subsequent query with the Civil Service Commission (CSC) Regional office revealed that while Etrone passed two Career Service Professional Examinations, the pictures pasted on his application forms are different from those pasted in the Personnel Data Sheet (PDS).
The signatures affixed in the application forms and PDS of Etrone are also different.
The current immigration officer in Davao is Ben Lao. (BOT)
