Panabo jeepney yields 'Uzi' guns
MEMBERS of the Regional Mobile Group (RMG) 11 manning a checkpoint at Crossing Malagamot in Panacan nabbed a man trying to smuggle in three homemade sub-machineguns to the city from Datu Paglas town in Maguindanao.
The suspect was identified as one Thong Dalgan Calipa, 26, who hails from Datu Paglas in Maguindanao province, but is residing at Sto. Niño, Barangay Dos in Koronadal City.
"Galing sa Datu Paglas yung mga armas at parang cargo truck ang sinakyan ng suspect hanggang Panabo City at nag-commute na siya patungong Davao," Senior Police Officer 1 Aronold Absin of the RMG told Superbalita Wednesday.
Calipa was riding a passenger jeepney with plate number LVU-960 from Panabo City, which passed through the checkpoint headed by Senior Inspector Ireneo Dalugdog at around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Absin said, Calipa during the interrogation denied knowing the person to neither whom the guns are intended for nor who sent him to bring in the caliber .9mm sub-machineguns that came complete with magazines.
"Sabi niya hindi niya kilala ang pagdadalhan niya ng mga armas. Hinihintay lang daw niya ang contact sa cellphone ng kanyang pagdadalhan," Absin said.
The police are still trying to extract information from Calipa as to whom the guns came from and are also preparing charges of illegal possession of firearms, a violation of Presidential Decree 1866. (RCO)
