City orders 6,000 more armchairs and desks
MORE than 6,000 armchairs and desks would be delivered soon to various schools in the three districts of Davao City to make up for the dire lack, the General Services Office said.
General Services Officer Jessie Marvin Melodias said the 6,000 is in addition to the 20,090 armchairs and desks already delivered during the early part of the school year.
"Although we were not able to trace back in June but in July, the city was able to distribute a total of 20,090 armchairs and desks in the three districts of Davao)," Melodias said adding that the distribution was ordered by Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte.
Still being manufactured are 6,314 more after the project was bid out recently.
"Dako na pud ni siyang tabang sa mga eskwelahan nga kulang ug mga bangko (This will be a big help to all schools in need of chairs)," Melodias said.
Identification of the different elementary and high schools to be recipient of the provided chairs is through the Department of Education (DepEd) as the lead agent in implementing the program.
The funding of the program is sourced in the 2004-2005 Local School Board Budget.
According to Melodias, if computed the 20,090 armchairs have consumed more or less 18 million pesos. (BRQ)
