GSIS housing programs set to create 210,000 jobs
THE Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has projected it could generate over 210,000 jobs through its housing programs in the next five years.
Based on the number of accounts in the GSIS Bahay Ko Program, the state pension fund expects to create 41,861 jobs annually with the loans it would release to finance the housing needs of its members from 2006-2010.
"The number will significantly contribute to the one million new jobs the government intends to generate by 2010," GSIS President Winston Garcia said.
Housing programs is one key area being tapped by the government to form part of the overall plan to provide six million jobs within the five-year period.
Bulk of the jobs created by GSIS through the housing program would come from the different modes of loans that will facilitate home construction or outright acquisition.
