3 of 4 nabbed JI suspects are MILF members: Kabalu

THREE of the four alleged members of the international terrorist group Jemaah Islamiya (JI) arrested by the military in Pigcawayan, North Cotabato on Wednesday are actually members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and not at all terrorists, said MILF spokesperson Eid Kabalu Saturday.

Kabalu identified the MILF members as Abdulsalam Salik, 25; Sohudin Danda, 29, and Omar Bantas, 30, all residents of Pigcawayan, North Cotabato.

Another suspect, Kasan Datukon, 29 years old, Kabalu said is a military agent.

According to Kabalu, Datukon was immediately released by the military few minutes after their arrest while the three were interrogated.

"Set up itong ginawa ng mga military sa tatlo. In fact umamin din ang military sa kanilang kapalpakan dahil sila na mismo nagrequest sa pulis na pakawalan na lang yung tatlo dahil wala talagang ebidensya laban sa kanila," Kabalu said.

The spokesman said Datukon was the one carrying the bomb and it just so happened that the three MILF rebels were also on the same vehicle the military agent was riding.

"He (Datukon) bought the bomb from a local bomb-maker for P25,000. He told the bomb-maker that the explosive would be used for the promotion of some military officers," Kabalu said.

"Pinakawalan na din kahapon ung tatlo as requested by the CO (commanding officer) of 3rd IB Bravo company (Army)," Kabalu said.

Kabalu added the three rebels are now back at their homes in Pigcawayan while
Datukon is nowhere to be found.

Last September 28, government forces manning a mobile checkpoint in Barangay Manuangan in Pigcawayan town found an improvised bomb with a cell phone as a trigger device from one of the suspects. (BOT)
