Pinoy suicide bomber unlikely: Task force chief

THE scenario of a Filipino suicide bomber being used by the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) in its terrorist activities is a far-fetched possibility.

This was the opinion made by Task Force Davao chief Colonel Eduardo del Rosario in relation to the latest bomb attacks in Bali, Indonesia last Saturday where the JI used Indonesian suicide bombers to execute their plan.

Del Rosario said it is highly unlikely for a Filipino to allow himself to be blown up by the bomb he is carrying.

"Alam mo naman yung mga Pinoy, di naman tayo mga tanga eh," del Rosario said.

At least 26 people were killed when two explosions hit two resort spots packed with tourists last Saturday.

Television footage showed a man carrying a backpack a few seconds before the bag exploded.

The blasts struck the seaside area of Jimbaran Bay and the bar and shopping hub of Kuta, 30 kilometers away at about 8 p.m. Saturday night.

In addition to the 26 fatalities, hospital officials said 102 people were wounded. One of those who died was a 16-year-old Australian boy, officials said, while South Koreans, Americans, Japanese and Britons were among those wounded.

The attacks came almost three years after terrorists bombed Kuta nightclubs on October 12, 2002, killing 202 people. (BOT)
