Suspect's ma to file charges against cops
THE mother of the suspected robber who was killed in an alleged "shootout" with police intends to file charges against the Davao City police, insisting her son was "salvaged."
Gloria Aguilon, the suspect's mother, claimed that what happened was not a "shootout" because her son was unarmed during the incident.
"The gun was planted, my son was not armed," said Gloria.
His 21-year-old son, Augustus, was killed on the night of September 18 near a convenience store in Matina Pangi in Davao City.
Reports said that Augustus was under police surveillance before he was killed for his alleged involvement in a series of robbery incidents in the city.
"My son is not a robber. Even if he was a suspect, police shouldn't have shot him," Gloria said.
Gloria believes the incident was another case of "salvaging," claiming somebody informed her that her son was forcibly dragged inside a van from the Matina Town Square (MTS) where Augustus was hanging out with his friends before the incident.
Gloria claimed her son was brought near the convenience store in Matina Pangi where he was killed.
"I will file a case against the police. I learned that he was forcibly taken together with another man, who is still missing," Gloria said.
Earlier, Chief Inspector Vicente Danao, chief of the Talomo police precinct, and Senior Superintendent Catalino Cuy, chief of the Davao City Police Office, said that they are ready to face any charges that would be filed against them.
Missing
Meanwhile, one Rogelio Peñaranda Jr., 20, is reportedly missing since September 18.
His family has not heard of him since unidentified armed men reportedly took him on the same night Augustus was also reportedly seized at MTS. Peñaranda was last seen together with Augustus.
Rhea Maumbas, sister of Peñaranda, told Sun.Star Davao that her family is worried that her brother may have been dead.
"The last time I heard from my brother was when he texted me at around 8 p.m. on the night Augustus was killed. He said that he and Augustus were together at MTS. Augustus also texted me that they were together," Maumbas said.
"Somebody informed us that it was not only Augustus who was killed that night. There were two and the other one should have been my brother. We can accept that he's dead, but all we want is to see him," Maumbas said.
Maumbas claimed her brother has no criminal records. (JGR/RCO)
