Tagum diocese is 25 years old

Tagum diocese is 25 years old

"We remember. We give thanks. We celebrate"

THE clergy, the faithful and the religious Christian communities of the Diocese of Tagum gave life to this theme in activities marking the Silver Jubilee of their diocese.

The highlight of the yearlong activities of remembering, thanksgiving and celebrating is on October 11, 2005. This is the exact day the Holy See elevated the Prelature of Tagum into a Diocese 25 years ago.

On this day, all roads in the diocese will lead to the New Cathedral at Gonzales Avenue in the city of Tagum. The people of God from all over the diocese will come to witness the rare historic ecclesiastical event of the dedication ceremonies of the new Christ the King Cathedral. Erected on a two and a half hectare lot donated by the Gonzales family, the new cathedral stands as a new city landmark, the biggest church so far not only in the city but entire Mindanao or if not throughout Philippines.

The high and the low of Tagum society from the government, religious, private, civic and business sectors are expected to fill the cathedral to the brim during the morning mass and dedication ceremonies on October 11.

Prior to this big event, the triduum (3) days activities, will be conducted at the Old Christ the King Cathedral at Rizal Street, Tagum City. Afternoon masses starting at 5:00 p.m. will be said by invited archbishops and bishops formerly connected with the diocese.

His Excellency Most Reverend Wilfredo D. Manlapaz, DD, SThD, the current Bishop of Tagum, will officiate at the concelebrated mass and dedication ceremonies. Concelebrants will be the invited archbishops, bishops, clergy of Mindanao and other invited clerics in the Philippines.
