Body searches are compulsory: Mayor
WHETHER you are a senator, a governor or plain Juan dela Cruz, once you enter any establishment here in Davao City, you will have to submit yourself to a body search if asked to.
This was the declaration made by Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte after being informed that some public officials are castigating security personnel in some establishments for subjecting them to a body search upon entry.
"I'm the mayor here and yet I automatically raise my arms to be inspected, why won't you?" Duterte said.
The mayor advised security personnel who are being castigated by politicians for merely doing their job to tell them that the order came straight from Duterte and that if they have any complaints they can always call the mayor and discuss it with him.
"Dinhi sa Davao kinahanglan tabla tanan (Here in Davao everyone's equal), except of course for the President of the republic," Duterte said.
Duterte said these politicians who do not want to be subjected to body search are merely ego-tripping and just want to be given importance because of their position.
The mayor said though that whatever security measures they are implementing now, they are doing it for the benefit of the majority.
Duterte said that any public official who merely wanted to be given a VIP treatment would not hamper their fight against terrorism. (BOT)
