Manny to train in Davao? By Charles Raymond A. Maxey
THERE is a big possibility that Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao will open his training in Davao City as he prepares for his much-awaited grudge rematch with Mexican Erik Morales in January next year.
If not in Davao, Pacquiao will most likely train in Manila or in his hometown General Santos City to keep him away from distractions.
No less than Freddie Roach, his famed American trainer, announced that Pacquiao would open training camp in the Philippines before flying to the United States for the second phase of his training.
The rematch with Morales is scheduled on January 21 in Las Vegas, and Roach eyes to train Pacquiao for at least six weeks in the US.
But the work out would definitely start in the country, and Davao is reportedly being considered as an ideal training site.
Pacquiao trained at the Davao City boxing gym, located at the back of the Almendras gym, last December when he fought Fahsan 3K Battery in Taguig.
Roach himself supervised the training in the City of Durian despite warnings from his media friends and found the place wonderful.
Pacquiao went on to beat Fahsan via a fourth round knockout. Against Morales, Pacquiao suffered defeat.
But the Filipino pug bounced fro that loss to Morales in March with a sensational sixth-round stoppage of Hector Velazquez last September.
And although Morales lost on the same night, their promoters sealed the rematch between the Mexican and the Filipino.
Gary Shaw, Pacquiao's promoter, even boasted that his boxer would knock Morales out the second time around and avenge his defeat.
