Jags-CT execs seek support
GLAN, Sarangani -- Local chief executives of the Jags Cooperation Triangle (Jags-CT) are seeking support from the national government to institutionalize the Jags-CT initiative as a strategic means to accelerate development at the local level.
Jags-CT is a small economic grouping of three municipalities in the southern part of Mindanao namely Jose Abad Santos (Davao del Sur), Glan (Sarangani), and Sarangani (Davao del Sur).
At the recently held 2nd Jags-CT Leaders Meeting here, Mindanao Economic Development Council (Medco) chair Secretary Jesus Dureza received a copy from the leaders of Jags-CT of the eight resolutions seeking the assistance of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in ensuring the institutionalization and sustainability of the Jags-CT initiative.
The resolutions were signed by Jags-CT leaders led Mayors Enrique Yap, Jr. of the Municipality of Glan, Alex Wangkay of the Municipality of Jose Abad Santos, and Jerry Cawa of the Municipality of Sarangani.
In a resolution, the Jags-CT leaders sough the issuance of a Presidential directive institutionalizing Jags-CT and providing financial assistance for its operation.
The resolution noted that such directive is vital to the sustainability of Jags-CT, and its active participation in the BIMP-Eaga, particularly the effort to establish stronger ties with neighboring markets like Indonesia.
Jags-CT also sought the prioritization of major infrastructure projects in the area, specifically the improvement of the Port of Glan, which is currently proposed to declare as limited international port, making it Jags-CT's international port of entry.
Other infrastructure projects being pushed are the construction of the Jose Abad Santos Glan Road section and the full electrification of the Municipalities of Jose Abad Santos and Sarangani.
The 2nd Jags-CT Leaders Meeting was held alongside the 4th Jags-CT Friendship Games on October 4-6, 2005 in Glan, Sarangani.
