Masons take center stage
THE participants showed different phases of Masonry work in detail during the Regional Skills Competition 2005 held recently at the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) Korea-Phils. Vocational Training Center in Buhisan, Tibungco, Davao City. Twenty participants on masonry showed their skill in the concreting of the Kor-Phil dirty kitchen.
Mixing of cement, sand and water is done is demonstrated in this photo number 2 while participant number 2 (photo 3) does hollow block filing. Participant number 1 (photo 4) does finishing of the Kor-Phil dirty kitchen outside wall, while another participant displays his skill through tile setting.
Its Tesda and their respective sponsors awarded winners during the two-day skills competition prizes. Holcim, Philippines co-sponsored the masonry competition.
All participants likewise were provided cash allowance for transportation, meals, and honorarium by Holcim, Phils. Aside from the uniform, tools, headgear, etc., Holcim, Phils also donated 100 bags of cement during the competition.
Competition for other trade areas were also co-sponsored by different establishments in Region 11 like Davao Light and Power Co., Inc.; Arjoel Group of Companies; Kanto Motors; Zonta Club of Davao City; Davao City Tourism Association; Columbia Computer Center and Davao City Hairdressers Association.
The Regional Skills Competition is being held annually. Winners in the regional level will compete in the national level and the winners in the national level automatically qualifies for World Skills Competition which will be held in Brunei next year. In 2007, Japan will be hosting the world competition.
