Ateneo nips Taytayan By Charles Raymond A. Maxey
GIO Diamante came through with a hattrick, two of them back-to-back goals, to power the Ateneo de Davao past Taytayan-Toril Monday, 5-1, in the Red Ribbon Under-15 Davao Football Championships at the Tiongko field.
Olegario added two goals as the Ateneans bounced back from an opening-day setback to Emar to score their first win in Group B.
Taytayan, which won its first-day assignment, actually scored the first goal courtesy of Jordan Motalib in the 20th minute to stun the Ateneo side.
The celebration, however, was short-lived for Taytayan as the Ateneo offense went full throttle after that, with Olegario netting the equalizer nine minutes later.
Then, the speedy Diamante, the heart and soul of the Ateneo offense, got his game going with goals in the 48th and 49th to give his team a 3-1 lead.
Olegario and Diamante added a goal each from there to complete the scoring.
In other matches, defending champion Emar dismantled Green Meadows, 16-0, in another Group B match, and Holy Child edged Matina Central, 2-1, in Group A.
