Alternative fuel set for distribution in Mindanao
A PRODUCER of alternative fuel will open distribution centers in Mindanao by January 2006.
Eastern Petroleum chief executive officer and president of Independent Philippines Petroleum Association Fernando Martinez said they will move the distribution centers to Regions 10, 11 and 12.
"We are aiming some 30 distribution centers to cover the Mindanao area," he said.
Among the line of products of Eastern Petroleum are the coco-methyl ester (CME) blend, ethanol blend for gasoline-fed engines and Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)
products.
He said vehicles powered by the LPG will have a lower rate of consumption for only P8 per liter.
Martinez also said that they are developing the ethanol fuel and is looking at sugar plantations in Mindanao.
"The local capability could be developed and could attain a surplus of the fuel consumption," he said.
He said if we could save at least 10 percent of our gasoline consumption that could be translated to a monthly savings of $10 million.
He said there are about 4.5 million vehicles in the country and if these could shift consumption to alternative fuels there could be a lot of savings.
Martinez said by next month there will be a forum on how to go about the partnership in the operation of the distribution centers.
The operation of the center is by franchising and investment for one center is about P10 million with 50-50 sharing between the two parties.
He said they are looking at independent petroleum plants like the Flying V and Sea Oil and even local partners who are willing to invest.
