Caracoles in Manila, atbp.
By Marissa S. Te Eng Fo

AS I swoon back to the past and thought of how these three ladies, DOT 11 Director Sonia V. Garcia, Samal Island Tourism chair Celi Pe Benito and Food and Beverage consultant who is moi, worked wonders and pulled whatever can be pulled to make a successful island festival in Region 11, wow is all I can say.

I watched the promotion of this very beautiful event at the Podium, Ortigas Center celebrating the beauty of our island, the Island Garden City of Samal.

Pride seeped into our veins and tickled us dearly as we watched this event unveil before our eyes. It is really a showcase of Samal!

Jun Gales was very detailed in his promotion of "Dive Samal, Dive the Gulf," aptly prepared to entice tourists to visit Igacos. The culminating activity, Caracoles Samal featured guests in island attire and appropriately clad, too. The men came in festive flower designed polos.

Yvette Lee, who is internationally known in the art of underwater photography, showcased her collections to everyone's applause. Never wonder because another genius in the photography world was there to help out, Rhonson Ng.

Igacos mayor Rogelio Antalan along with Ms. Garcia opened the event. The guest of honor was Canadian Ambassador Peter Sutherland and the Canadian diplomatic corps.

It was quite a social gathering with protocol officers of DFA, pretty Igacos first lady Tess Antalan, tourism officers of Region 11 and more.

It was quite a scene to see Mr. Sutherland enjoy bamboo cooking served during cocktails. Bamboo culinary is a part of DOT 11's culinary awareness program. As we all believe in, what is existence without subsistence? And there is no art appreciation if one is hungry.

WOW Davao in Manila was labeled "intramuros-extramuros." As the celebration and activities were scheduled to wow the academe in intramuros, the art world and the elite had their taste in the Metropolitan Museum (Dabaw is there till December, and I might add very artsy alongside the very chic Dita Sandico-Ong lumad fabric fashion creations, the photos of genius Rhonson Ng and the total presentation of CCP Gawad awardee Nestor Horfilla).

The opening featured lo-ot bamboo cooking and the partaking of the food to the interest of the guests (Davao del Norte vice governor Anthony del Rosario, pretty Inday del Rosario, gwapa Baby Montemayor, PA Jess Dureza, to mention a few), finding this culinary of our forefathers very ingenious and masarap, while the Shangri-la Mall presentation was equally met with interests as we noticed the Davao brochures were all gone and the crew brought in boxes of it.

Congratulations to all! Well done RD and the whole Region 11 crew. But let me not forget to share with you lovely readers that in every event, the guests were equally wowed by the dance prowess of Arnold and his Maharlika Dancers!

Have a great day!
