DJ PJ up close By Skip The Beat Skipojack
WHAT is so good about idolizing (excuse the word, no other term is available to get the feeling of so much liking) is that if feels like no other. You are being brought into some kind of dimension you cannot even explain. But one thing is sure, you like it so much you wish the feeling lingered for good and all.
Our next featured disc jockey is a great fan of 41-year-old Nicolas Cage and 40-year-old Keanu Reeves. His name is Peter John dela Cerna or more popularly known as "DJ PJ" on radio, a native of Malita born from a politically inclined family.
PJ shares his birthday (November 27) with celebrities like Martial Expert Bruce Lee, Rock Guitarist Jimi Henrix, Country/pop singer Eddie Rabbit, TV Host Buffalo Bob Smith, Film critic/Novelist James Angee, Melrose Place's Brooke Langton, Actress Robin Givens and JFK's daughter Caroline Kennedy. This Sagittarian, whose fondly called "Jan-jan" by his family, now resides in Bangkal. Alone. Just lately, I overheard he doesn't anymore.
This on-air personality is a lover of SWV's "Right Here," BBMak's "The Ghost of You", Angela Ammons' "Almost Getting Over You" and many more. She likes Julia Roberts and Reese Witherspoon. Unfortunately this dj dislikes the local artists. Why? He just doesn't like. Why? He says "Why not?" (Ugh!) His pigs out on chicken (buttered/fried/roasted), pasta and chocolate. He loves rootbeer and I doubt if he ever drinks them. He also craves for vegetable salads, paksiw na isda and pansit. This is a revelation: he likes to talk about Love Sex and almost everything under the sun.
You know what's fun with this guy? He loves to share most of his favorites and the list continues while I egg him on telling his followers. The first movie he watched on the big screen, he thinks was "Maalaala Mo Kaya The Movie" starring Aiko.
His first kiss: With someone when I was 9. It was fun! Craziest thing he did for love: Resigned from radio work.
Favorite movies: Artificial Intelligence, The Core.
"I manage Yagit Entertainment Group, a pool of talents dancer/singer/models and performers for events. I was once a director of Stage Three Productions, Malita's first event organizer, which handled Byaneng Malita 2004 -- a creative modern lumad-inspired beauty pageant & fashions and Fusions in February 2005 -- a fusion of fashion show and creative performances on stage for the benefit of the less fortunate children in Malita dike-riverside," he shared.
He started working on radio when he was 14-years-old. How? Through visits and until discovered by one Charma "Lady Charm" Bangoy of Radyo Natin in Malita back in 1997. His great influence? He said his father, "because he was a public servant and he characterized what a father should always be." He's dearly missed.
Advice to DJ-wannabes: Always keep your feet on the ground. Live your life as everyday is the last. Work hard. Keep reaching for the stars.
Favorite Programs on Radio: All especially, My Only Request
TV programs: Survivor, 7th Heaven, Oprah and the best of all "Baywatch." If you were not a DJ, what would you have been now: I could have been in a medical field of work, I must be out of the country. Maybe in England.
Favorite niece/nephew: All of them. Best advice from mother: "We count our age up not down. A time wasted is a life wasted. Make the most out of it, Son."
