Rebels demand P130T from coop man

A MANAGER of a cooperative in Tagum City sought police assistance after receiving a letter from a person claiming to be a member of the New People's Army (NPA) who demanded from him P130,000.

Francisco Espinel, manager of the SP Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Multi-Purpose Cooperative in Asuncion, Davao del Norte, told the police he got the letter at around 9:30 p.m. last November 9 from one Jun Rabat.

The letter, he said, was signed by Rabat who introduced himself as a member of the Front 3 of the NPA operating in Davao del Norte.

The letter said that if Espinel fails to hand over P130,000, he would be killed.

However, it was not stated in the police report whether the rebels set a deadline for Espinel to hand over the money.

The police are conducting further investigation. (Frinston Lim)
