CIO stuns GMA five

THE City Information Office shocked tournament favorite GMA Davao-Anflocor, 95-85, in the Best Four of the 1st Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte Inter-Media Basketball Tournament Saturday night at Almendras gym).

The undermanned CIO five did not give up in the last two minutes and quickly went to defense against the offensive unit led by Amor Puno.

Center David Adora, guards John Acojedo and Bam-bam Garcia, forwards Christopher "Bong" Go, who powered the team with 60 big points, and Orzon Cabigas made their last ditch efforts by holding on to the slim lead they posted in the dying minutes.

But the GMA cagers could no longer find the range they had in the first half to savor their first loss as the CIO shooters broke away for good and extended the lead to 10 points.

Byteworld-UMBN/Mindanews, mentored by sportswriter Peter Erick Magbanua, likewise stunned title-contender ABS-CBN Davao Arjoel, 86-69.

The tournament is presented by Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte and supported by KBP-Davao Chapter and BAP-XI.

Rico Jhone Biliran topscored for the Byteworld-backed team with 18 points.
