City workers may have 10 percent wage hike: official
DAVAO City Government workers might be getting a 10 percent across-the-board wage increase, said City Administrator Wendel E. Avisado Monday.
The fund would be generated through the implementation of the Revised Revenue Code, Avisado added.
"Ninety million of that (new tax collections) will be allocated for the financial requirements to implement a 10 percent across-the-board wage and salaries to both the permanent and those under contract of services and job orders," Avisado said adding that this would all depend on the National Government.
In an interview, he said, the rest of the money generated from the new tax code would be used to finance the programs and services of the City Government that are vital and necessary for the people.
"We are looking at next year, we just have to make some adjustments hindi naman kaagad yan gagastahin yang P90 million," Avisado said.
According to him, City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte already gave the instruction for the 10 percent wage increase.
"But were waiting for the enabling law from the national (government)," he added.
The Salary Standardization Law covers the city. He said, "Therefore, if Congress will say that we will need now to adjust our compensation package by 10 percent across-the-board then we will do it.
However, he said that the city is still looking on how far the national government could respond as they suggested only between 4-6 percent of wage increase.
"So it would really depend, kay kung mu-ingon sila nga to those who can afford to add as much as 10 percent, mas maayo kay dili lang up to 6 percent," said Avisado.
But, Avisado claimed that it would only be made possible if the city could generate more revenue through the Revised Revenue Code and also if the code is approved. (BRQ)
